Something struck me as I was reading II John last week, when I got to verse 12: Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full. John knows that face-to-face is better than impersonal methods of communication. So much of our life today is impersonal communication: Electronic mail, texting, and social media. But while those things have certainly had a positive impact in many ways - especially allowing us to stay in contact with family and friends who live far away - they cannot replace the intimacy that comes from talking to someone in person.
