Are all of America's foreign wars fought on behalf of Israel?
Deranged hatred of Jews has led to historical revisionism and simplistic monocausal explanation by the Alt-Right.
A common theme on the nationalist Right (and the Alt-Right) is that American soldiers keep going to war for Israel. However, an examination of our military engagements after the end of World War II makes that claim questionable. World War II ended in 1945, and the modern state of Israel was founded in 1948. Which of these wars was done for Israel?
Korean War: This was to repel a North Korean and Chinese invasion of South Korea. There is no benefit to Israel, who was not threatened by either.
Vietnam War - Our failed effort to keep South Vietnam from falling to Communism was of no benefit to Israel.
1991 Gulf War - This was primarily was a benefit to Kuwait, as we pushed Iraq out of the land they occupied. Israel was attacked by Saddam Hussein’s forces and told not to respond.
Somalia - Our “police action” was to distribute food to Somalis suffering from a famine made worse by demonic warlords intentionally disrupting the distribution of food to starving people. This was not a military benefit to Israel, though our weakness after the Mogadishu Massacre did contribute to September 11 by emboldening Osama bin Laden.
Yugoslavia - Our military intervention to pacify a brutal civil war and stop Serbia from committing genocide was not a benefit to Israel.
Afghanistan war - This was not a benefit to Israel, but as retaliation for 9/11. Had 9/11 never happened, American boots would have never been on the ground in Kabul. No, “The Jews” did not commit 9/11. That was al-Qaida.
2003 Gulf War - An invasion to bring “regime change” is arguably the primary example of a war fought on behalf of Israel, given the Hussein Regime’s hostility to Israel. I do not agree this was done on behalf of Israel, but for the sake of argument I will concede this one.
Other than the last one, I am not seeing a bunch of foreign wars we fought for Israel. Of course, anti-Semites come up with all kinds of deranged conspiracy theories about how “The Jews” or the “Zionist Occupation Government” have started all of these wars to weaken the United States and kill White people, but given that the United States is by far Israel’s most powerful and most supportive ally, it makes little sense why Israel would want to waken the nation that has supplied them with so much weaponry. I do not take that seriously. Of course there are also conspiracy theories about how “The Jews” make money from the wars, but I do not take that seriously either. This is not to deny that some of the people who have profited from war are Jews, but making this some sort of broader conspiracy is foolish. The world is too complicated for monocausal explanation.
There are plenty of reasons to be critical of any or all of the wars above, and whether they actually were in America’s national security interests, but blaming Israel or “The Jews” for all of the foreign wars is too clever by half. Much of this rhetoric comes not from legitimate concerns about a specific foreign government holding too much influence over American foreign policy, but of a deranged hatred for Jews generally. This should be rejected. Conservatives, including nationalist conservatives, must not allow a legitimate call for an “America First” or non-interventionist foreign policy to be hijacked by people who simply hate Jews.
