Blame Donald Trump, not Micah Beckwith
The vast majority of the people damning Beckwith know absolutely nothing about him, his policy positions, and his history.
Micah Beckwith is the Lieutenant Governor of the state of Indiana. Beckwith has absolutely no control over immigration policy and he has absolutely no authority to grant asylum to anyone, from anywhere in the world. If a single immigrant - from Haiti or anywhere else - is granted asylum and sent to Indiana, that would be 100% totally on Donald Trump and his administration, not anyone in Indiana state government. This is why the outrage and hatred directed at Beckwith from MAGA is deranged, hypocritical and ignorant.
The deranged hatred directed at Beckwith started when he did something boringly normal for a state official: He met with some pastors from Marion County. (This is where Indianapolis, the seat of state government, is located.) Beckwith said that 40,000 Haitian immigrants were seeking asylum and to be located in Indiana. Again, only the Trump administration can grant asylum.
So what exactly did Beckwith do wrong? Absolutely nothing. In the event that the Trump administration grants asylum to Haitian immigrants, Beckwith was meeting with Indianapolis pastors to discuss how best to assimilate these people. Whether the immigrants (from Haiti or anywhere else) should be granted asylum by the Trump administration is beside the point. If immigrants come to Indiana, state government has to deal with that eventuality, both for the good of the immigrants and for the good of native-born Hoosiers.
The people screeching at Beckwith know literally nothing about him. He has been a strong supporter of securing our border and limiting immigration. He has been damned by the legacy media and the Left as an evil MAGA Christian Nationalist since he started running for lieutenant governor back in 2023. Yet for this one meeting with other ministers of the word and sacrament to discuss the possibility of immigrants being granted asylum by the Trump administration and coming to Indiana, he is a Deep State traitor. It is completely ridiculous.
So why is Beckwith meeting with these Indianapolis pastors "instead of" other Hoosiers? This once again illustrates the "all or nothing" mentality that is destroying our country. Meeting with some Indianapolis pastors because immigrants are seeking asylum (which, once again, only the Trump administration has authority to grant) does not in any way prevent Beckwith from meeting with anyone else. As a statewide elected official, Beckwith meets with a lot of people. That is the job he was elected to do.

He did not "walk it back" after getting damned by MAGA, because there was nothing to walk back. MAGA supporters are simply reacting to one social media post and concluding he is Indiana's version of Gavin Newsom, determined to "replace" Indiana's population and that he is an example of why "you don't hate the Republican Party enough." The other 49 states would be lucky to have a solid Christian conservative like Beckwith as their lieutenant governor.
