Bloomington must crack down on violent crime
Government's refusal to enforce the law is shameful.
Note: This was originally submitted as a letter to the editor, but it looks like the local newspaper declined to print it.
The shocking, senseless and brutally sadistic murder of a 23 year old Ukrainian refugee should resonate in Bloomington. Her life was snuffed out by a mentally ill homeless man with a long criminal history named Decarlos Brown Jr.
The reason it resonates here is because our city government has totally failed to maintain law and order. Here are the needles found in Seminary Square Park the last few years:
2021 - 2,095
2022 - 1,220
2023 - 1,481
2024 - 2,641
We need to crack down on violent criminals and put them behind bars. The dangerously mentally ill and drug addicts should be forced into treatment. It is not more “compassionate” to leave people on the street instead of making them get treatment.
Government WILL exclude people from society. The question is not whether to exclude, but who to exclude. Do you exclude thugs like Decarlos Brown Jr. or do you exclude innocent victims like Iryna Zarutska? The corrupt "justice" system decided to exclude Zarutska. They decided she did not deserve to live. We should demand that Bloomington make the opposite choice!
Iryna Zarutska. Say her name. Then demand that the Bloomington City Council and the Mayor do the same.
