Defending the Cemetery of the Innocents
If advocates of "abortion rights" were consistent, they would advocate the Holocaust Memorial museum in Washington D.C. be closed. After all, Nazis should not be shamed for killing millions of Jews, because shame does not work. Instead, we should educate Nazis about non-violent conflict resolution.
Of course, this is nonsense. Shame does work, both corporately and individually. In fact, shame is a grace of God for our benefit and protection, because it protects us from doing things that we should not do. One of the great tragedies of modern Christiandom is that we have abandoned and even forbidden the use of shame to instruct, reproof and rebuke.
The reason we have the Holocaust museum is to horrify us about what happened in Nazi Germany in the 1930's and 1940's. This is supposed to make us think two simple words: "Never Again." This is also why Christians remind us of the holocaust in our own land: The murder of sixty million unborn babies, with a million more babies being butchered every year under the banner of "reproductive choice."
The Cemetery of the Innocents serves as a reminder of all of the lives lost to abortion over the last forty-five years, and the lives that are being exterminated right here in our own city just a few blocks from the county courthouse. The bloodshed should propel us to action against this killing. The shame of killing a baby (like the shame of any other sin) should drive us to the Cross to ask for God's forgiveness through the blood of His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank God for those churches with the courage to erect this memorial, despite the scorn heaped upon them by abortion "rights" advocates in our local newspaper.
