Donald Trump, annexing Canada, and behaving like an adult
President Trump is not a serious person. He loves to troll people and make them angry.
President Ronald Reagan envisioned America as "a shining city on a hill." We would be an example to other nations, both for our protection of liberty and because we stood against the imperialist ambitions of the Soviet Union. Our first major military action in the post-Cold War era was to push Iraq out of Kuwait, after Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion of another sovereign nation in violation of international law.
So does President Donald Trump realize that all of this blather about annexing Canada and/or Greenland - possibly by force - eviscerates our moral standing to stand against Russia's invasion of Ukraine and any potential aggression by China against Taiwan, as well as our own moral standing 35 years ago against Iraq's annexation of Kuwait?
This is why Trump needs to stop making these jokes.
Now, let's be realistic: Trump is not going to make Canada the 51st state, nor will he forcibly take Greenland. Even if he is serious, he needs Congressional approval. Trump is joking, and he is also trolling to make liberals angry. He wants to "own the libs," if you will. And this is the problem with Trump. He is not a serious person. He loves to troll people and make them angry. And, sadly, much of the Republican base loves it when he does that. That includes people like Ben Shapiro, who really should know better.
But Donald Trump is not a radio talk show host. He is not a pundit. He is not a comedian. He is about to become the President of these United States for the second time. It is long past time for him to grow up, stop trolling, and take the job seriously.
Trump is capable of maturity and professionalism. He has shown it on many occasions. What we have here is not a lack of ability to behave like a functioning adult or a statesman, but a lack of willpower. That is far worse than someone who cannot control himself. If Trump truly loves America, he will start acting like the President he was elected to be, not the childish troll he wants to be.
