Donald Trump, Truth Social and winning elections
Trump needs a more disciplined, focused approach that does not involve venting his spleen every single day on social media.
These posts by Donald Trump are deranged and unhinged - nearly as far from being "statesmanlike" as possible. Trump is arguing for the execution of a man who was one of his top generals, as well as illegal retaliation against the news media for reporting he does not like. Cable news, of course, does not use the "public airwaves" and would be immune to meddling with broadcast licenses.
As I have asked many times before, what is Trump trying to accomplish here?
Trump's angry ranting and threats of government retaliation fires up Leftists and makes them more determined to turn out and vote against him. We saw this when record numbers of voters turned out to vote him out in 2020, causing Trump to lose the election. That was not a pro-Biden vote. It was an anti-Trump vote.
These rants turn off people in the middle. It certainly does not persuade anyone who is undecided to vote for Trump. Trump is not a political pundit or a YouTube streamer. He is a former president of these United States, and people who are persuadable are turned off by his unhinged rants.
Sure, the hardcore MAGA people love it when Trump is trolling and taunting and venting on social media, but those people are already willing to belly crawl across rusty nails and broken glass to vote for Trump. There's no political advantage to Trump when he is venting his spleen.
Biden is hurting in the polls. If the election were held today, Trump has a strong chance of winning. But Trump has absolutely no discipline, and he refuses to control his mouth. That is what caused him to lose the election three years ago. A more disciplined, focused approach that does not involve venting his spleen every single day on social media would be much more likely to make Trump victorious in 2024.
I said this exact same thing in 2020, when I voted for Trump. I wanted him to show some discipline and self-control, because I wanted him to win. There is no reason Trump cannot be elected President again, becoming the only President other than Grover Cleveland to serve non-consecutive terms. But his complete and total lack of discipline and self-control may very well cost him the next election. If and when he loses to a senile, thoroughly corrupt, radical Leftist career politician for the second election in a row, he will have no one to blame but himself.
Trump's total lack of discipline and self control, and his determination to be as viciously personally nasty as possible, is why I will not vote for him again. Even worse, Trump has repeatedly shifted to the Left on both fiscal and social issues, so I have no trust that he will govern in his second term the way he did in his first term. Trump has proven who he is. He does not deserve my vote.
