Forrest Gump's anti-KKK message
The Cult of Wokeness is an oppressive, hyper-legalist cult that wants to micromanage every single aspect of your life.
Back in 2020, some radical Black Lives Matter agitators decided that the movie “Forrest Gump” is bad because the main character is named after a grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, and the movie should have a “trigger warning” because of that:
As a bonus, “lovable” title character Nathan Bedford Forrest was named after his grandfather, the first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.
First of all, the so-called “journalist” does not even get basic facts right. The main character’s name is Forrest Gump, not Nathan Bedford Forrest. This is a lie so brazen that it is shocking it was ever published in a mainstream outlet. This is not some crank on social media or writing a personal blog. This is a large mainstream publication about pop culture.
Of course, the entire point of his name is that the KKK was bad, and he has that name as a reminder that the KKK is bad. The reason Gump has that name, in storyline, is because his mother wanted to remind him that the KKK is bad. Far from honoring NBF, the movie is explicitly anti-racist.
On top of that, Gump’s best friend is a Black man named Bubba. Gump repeatedly runs into the jungle in Vietnam, braving a hail of Viet Cong gunfire, to find and rescue Bubba in a crucial scene. When Gump becomes a millionaire, he gives an enormous amount of money to Bubba’s family, setting them up to be wealthy for life. The movie openly opposes racial segregation in the Deep South.
No one who watches the movie honestly could conclude that the movie supports the KKK. This lie is so obscene that literally nothing Variety ever says can ever be trusted again. They have permanently destroyed their credibility, with no hope of recovery.
“It’s just a movie, why does it matter?”
The reason it matters is this is a small example of a much wider problem. The Cult of Wokeness is an oppressive, hyper-legalist cult that damns even the tiniest, most unintentional, and most well-intentioned errors as unforgivable blasphemy and heresy. It treats the most minor indiscretions as a reason to destroy someone’s life in addition to imposing heavy-handed censorship. This is not about a movie. This is about a radical movement that wants to micromanage every single aspect of your life and everything you do and say. It is about a Fake News media that will openly lie and spread hoaxes in service of that authoritarian agenda. When President Trump says the Fake News media is the enemy of the people, this is what he means.
This is what a cult looks like, folks. Nothing is EVER good enough for the Cult of Wokeness. No matter what you do, this cult will always find a way to deem you a “sinner,” often with so-called “standards” that change on a daily basis to make sure no one can ever be “righteous.” This way, this oppressive, hyper-legalist cult can keep the tithes and offerings flowing as a permanent penitence for the sin of “racism.” But these are not love offerings to their “god.” It is blackmail money. This is why I reject their so-called “god.” I am a heretic and a blasphemer, and I am proud to be a heretic and a blasphemer.
