From "pro-choice" to pro-abortion
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! -- Isaiah 5:20
Back in the 1990's, President Bill Clinton repeatedly said he wanted abortion to be "safe, legal and rare." Arguments about whether Clinton was sincere on the last point aside, this was a consensus even among pro-choice Democrats for a generation: That abortion is an unfortunate thing and a difficult choice, but it must be legally available to women. Those days are gone now.
Today, we have radical feminists saying that "abortion is healthcare" and that it is objectively good. They are demanding that government pay for abortions, shattering the bipartisan consensus that had existed for over 40 years, with even pro-choice Democrats supporting the Hyde Amendment. Yes, there was some agitating among feminists to have government pay for this brutal "medical procedure," but the general consensus was holding. That is over now.
None of this is a surprise. Everyone knows that killing a defenseless unborn baby is a wicked thing, no matter how much they protest that "abortion is healthcare." In order to soothe the conscience over supporting it, abortion must be re-defined as a moral good - and those who disagree (even those who are pro-choice) must be browbeaten and shamed until they actively endorse abortion. The fetus, instead of being a developing human life, is dehumanized and called an invasive parasite. This is obviously anti-science nonsense, but remember the terminology used by radical feminists is religious terminology, not scientific terminology.
It is tempting to say that this will lead to political defeat for the Democrats, and in 2020 the extremism just might do that. We should never assume that in the long run, because the heart of man is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Man is capable of the most horrific evil imaginable, and will declare it "good." We should obviously continue to educate people about the cruelty of abortion and the humanity of the fetus, but the only real solution is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Unless hearts change through the power of the Holy Spirit, abortion will never be criminalized.
