"He did it toooooooooooooooooo!! Waah!! Waah!!"
Stop acting like petulant children. Stop refusing to apply any standards of basic human decency to your own side. Stop defending dishonesty.
It is often said that we get the government we deserve, and nowhere is that more obvious than watching people "defend" the politicians on their own side in discussions on social media. No matter what the substance of the criticism, the response from both sides far too often boils down to this:
"Waah!! Waah!! He did it toooooooooooooooooooooo!! Waah!!"
If Joe Biden does something bad or violates the rule of law, "Trump did it too." If Donald Trump does something bad or violates the rule of law, "Biden did it too." All of this is so very tiresome. People who are supposed to be "adults" are pointing fingers at each other and whining like toddlers. People who would (hopefully) not accept that as an excuse for bad behavior from their children nonetheless trot out that "argument" as if it is a defense for the bad policy or bad behavior by the politician they support.
We have people representing us from Congress down to the local school board who are not serious about policy because the people who elect them are not serious about policy. The politicians do not care about the rule of law, separation of powers, civility, or anything else of substance because the voters themselves – or at least the loudest voices in their base - do not care about such things. It is all about tribalism and playing "gotcha" with constant accusations of "hypocrisy." Then we wonder why our children run away from responsibility and accountability. It is pathetic.
The problem is not the politicians. The problem is the voters themselves, for not voting for functioning adults who take governance seriously. The problem is the voters themselves, who see politics as another avenue of entertainment instead of the serious business of running your township, county, state, or nation. The problem is the voters themselves, who are so steeped in hatred and extreme tribalism they can never tolerate any criticism of their own side. The problem is the voters themselves, who refuse to demand better behavior from leaders of their own party.
All of you, stop it. Grow up. Stop acting like petulant children. Stop refusing to apply any standards of basic human decency to your own side. Stop defending dishonesty. The only hope for our country is for enough voters to become mature men and woman who, while they may have strong ideological convictions, do not care about party labels nearly as much as they care about good character, the rule of law and solid public policy. Every single time you pathetically whine "he did it too" you are degrading and destroying this country. Once again, grow up.
