Infighting is good for Republicans, conservatives and MAGA
Internal arguments make conservatives more capable of opposing the legislative and cultural agenda of the Left, rather than weakening us.
Scripture tells us in Proverbs 27:17 that "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." I have heard people publicly describe in writing and podcasts disagreement on an elders board of a church, as decisions are made regarding how best to shepherd God's people, and how the plurality of the elders led to a wise decision.
So why should the Republican Party be any different?
Part of the problem is that President Trump is a very brittle and effeminate man who reacts with rage to any criticism, especially within his own party. This is why he has raged against Thomas Massie and Rand Paul for taking consistent conservative stances in support of limited government. This brittleness and effeminacy has translated to much of the Republican base, which also reacts angrily to any criticism of President Trump, even from the Right.
But this is not the way it should be. It is good for conservatives to fight amongst ourselves about ideas and policy. It sharpens our arguments and clarifies our thinking. It helps ensure that the best ideas win. Through debate and disagreement, a good policy can be made stronger and bad policy can be avoided. Internal arguments make conservatives more capable of opposing the legislative and cultural agenda of the Left, rather than weakening us. Everyone falling in line makes us weaker, not stronger.
Yes, we should be careful to not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. For example, If we can cut $100 billion in wasteful spending, we should not refuse to support those cuts because could instead be cutting $200 billion, especially if that would not pass the House and/or Senate. We should be focused on moving in the right direction.
But we have to move beyond this childish demand that there can never be any criticism of the "MAGA agenda" or of Trump. It is not the job of Republicans to simply be sycophants to whatever Trump wants to do. The fact that Trump has done good things does not mean there should never be debate over what he wants to do or especially of his childish antics and language. Disagreement is not betrayal and should not be treated as such.
