Jesus drives Donald Trump out with a whip
Turning Scripture into a fundraising opportunity cheapens the Bible. Christians must reject this idolatrous worship of Mammon.
When the Lord Jesus Christ entered His Father's temple, He was indignant that the money changers and merchants were profiting from people who needed to make sacrifices. The Lord made a whip and violently drove these people out of His temple, rebuking them for making His house a robber's den. There should be no question that Donald Trump would also be violently whipped by Jesus.
Trump encouraged people to read the Bible on his Truth Social platform. Whether that was sincere or not, that is a good thing. People should read the Word more often. The problem is that Trump emulated the merchants who defiled the Temple by selling a "God Bless the USA" Bible. A cut of the sales of this $60 book (you can easily get a Bible for one-third of that or less) will go to Donald Trump. Turning Scripture into a fundraising opportunity cheapens the Bible, defames God and once again makes Trump the center of attention. Doing this during Holy Week is especially egregious and offensive.
Christians should also oppose the idolatrous Christian Nationalist attempt to tie God and His Word to these United States. I love my country and I am thankful that God has blessed us. I truly believe we are the greatest nation to ever exist and we have done more good for the world than any other nation. But if the United States was utterly destroyed today, it would not matter to God one little bit. Our omnipotent Creator can accomplish His will without the United States. This nation was not specially chosen by God for anything, and is wholly irrelevant to what He will do. God works through human means, to be sure, but it is God doing the work, not the tool He uses.
If you want to write a check to Trump for his mounting legal bills and ridiculous fines imposed by the Democrats' lawfare against him, go right ahead. It is perfectly reasonable to be outraged by the perversion and corruption of our legal system by Democrats who promised to "get" Trump. But turning God's Holy Word into a merchandising tool is blasphemy and idolatry, especially when connected to jingoistic flag-waving. Jesus is the savior of the whole world, not just these United States. This shameful scheme should be rejected by every Christian. The fact that every Christian did not immediately reject it and some even supported it shows just how desperately the Church needs a revival and sincere repentance.
