No, you are not better than a repentant porn star
There is none righteous, no not one. We are all deserving of damnation. That should humble us.
When Charlie Kirk posted a video of former porn star Nala Ray talking about her faith in Jesus Christ, bitter men attacked him in the comments. He is "platforming whores," he is naive, and so forth. I wrote several posts about this in 2024, which you can see here and here and here and here.
No, you are not better than Nala Ray. Neither am I. Pretending otherwise is rank heresy. To understand why the self-righteous condemnation of Ray is wrong, consider the parable Jesus told as recorded in Luke 18:9-14. In earthly terms, the Pharisee was likely a far better person than the tax collector.
Remember, tax collectors were hated by the Jews, because they betrayed their own people to collect for the pagan, occupying Roman Empire. The tax collectors further oppressed their fellow Jews by collecting more than was required and then keeping the difference. For Jesus to use a tax collector as an example as incredibly provocative, not just to the Pharisees themselves, but to the average Jew who was seething under Roman occupation.
The point is this: The only righteousness we have comes from the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins and the Holy Spirit indwelling in us, not from any earthly "good works" we do, either directly in service to God or by caring for His sheep. If we think we are better than the worst sinners, we are wrong. We are all deserving of God's judgment and His grace is the only thing keeping us from eternal damnation. Humility and faith, not good works or a religious pedigree, are what God values. We should have the same attitude.
