Polygamy is not and was never Biblical
The cure to the spread of the polygamy virus is to repent of our surrender to sexual depravity.
I am a Christian. This means I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, the only begotten son of God. When God created man, He established marriage as the union of one man and one woman, not one man and multiple women. Because of their lust, men perverted this teaching to take multiple wives. Jesus reiterated the “one man, one woman” standard in Matthew 19, and as Christendom spread across the world polygamy was outlawed and the creation model that Jesus advocated became the norm.
While I follow Jesus, I do not follow the example of King David, who murdered a man to cover up his adultery and even murdered other soldiers of Israel to cover up the murder of Uriah as a military blunder. King David was so weak and pathetic that he did nothing when one of his sons raped one of his daughters, leading another son to enact vigilante justice on his rapist brother. Is this really the man you want to hold up as an example for why polygamy is good?
Yes, I am beating up on King David, who was a righteous man who loved God. There are many things to admire about David, but his undisciplined lust and his truly pathetic leadership as a father are obviously not things a Christian man should ever want to emulate.
I am focusing on David’s sin and failure to make a point: Only Jesus Christ is without sin, and He preached one man and one woman. For 2000 years, as Christendom spread, it pushed polygamy aside, following Jesus’ teaching. Now there are immature Christians - and not a few actual cult leaders - who are trying to make the case that polygamy is “Biblical.” It is not, and both the New Testament and the teaching of Jesus makes that clear. It is funny how the first thing a cult leader discovers in his “new revelation” is that he is allowed to have sex with more than one woman - sometimes the wives of his followers.
We are already a post-Christian society, and the pagan practice of polygamy is seeping back into the Church. Sadly, because the Church has failed to stand against things like fornication and unbiblical divorce, our immune system has become weak to this new disease. The cure to the spread of the polygamy virus is to repent of our surrender to sexual depravity and openly revolt against the so-called “sexual revolution.” Only by restoring Biblical teaching on all aspects of sexuality can we resist and defeat this new disease.
