Recognizing the good President Trump has done
President Trump has done many things right, and it deserves to be recognized.
This is a rare Saturday post, as I normally write articles to be posted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. But since I already have content scheduled for this week, I am putting this up today.
Yesterday, I criticized the plan to send checks to people for the "savings" created by the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. I stand by every word of that post, because the $36 trillion national debt and annual $1.8 trillion budget deficit are a national emergency and we should not undercut efforts to cut the budget with more irresponsible spending. The small cuts DOGE has made (and in comparison to the total budget deficit and national debt, they are small) are indeed good and many of them should be supported. My objection to the proposal for refund checks is that it would undermine the work DOGE is doing by needlessly adding $400 billion to the deficit.
But since I have been critical of President Trump, I wanted to point out the good things he has done in his second term.
I defended Trump on his executive order recognizing only two sexes, and doubled down on it. One of the good consequences of President Trump's victory was Facebook's promise to get rid of highly partisan (and often fraudulent) fact-checking. As I said in December, many "Never Trump" folks on the Right are wrong when they "refuse to recognize that policies they support - such as deregulation, tax cuts and defending religious freedom - are good simply because Trump is the one implementing them."
I said on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump is right to end New York's congestion pricing scheme, because the state does not have the authority to put tolls on federal interstate highways without permission. Trump is correct that civil service reform is necessary. Firing the national security employees who participated in obscene sex chats on government computers was not only good, it is necessary. Our taxpayer owned computers and networks should not be used for this depravity.
One of President Trump's best accomplishments is regulatory reform. I shared an article on X that pointed out that getting rid of government regulations supporting paper straws is part of a larger move by the President to protect consumer choice. Moving to repeal regulations on dishwashers, shower heads and washing machines also protect consumer choice over bureaucratic meddling. Despite the protests of environmentalists, President Trump correctly understands God's creation order: That God made man to have dominion over the earth.
President Trump's election also provides Christians a reprieve from the federal government waging culture war against us, which is what we had from the Biden regime. Kamala Harris, who persecuted and attempted to imprison someone for the crime of journalism exposing the corruption of Planned Parenthood, would have continued and ramped up the culture war against Christians.
The most refreshing thing about Trump, to me, is that he is reflexively non-interventionist. I do not believe that all of the Republican "hawks" are deranged warmongers, but Trump does nonetheless represent a refreshing change from prior Republican administrations. We should not be asking Americans to spill their blood unless it is vital to our own national security.
So despite my criticisms of Trump (and I will continue to criticize him when he is wrong) I should be clear about something: I am thankful that he is the President and Kamala Harris is not. Trump has done a lot right, and we are much better off with him in the White House than we would have been with Harris.
