"Resistance genealogy" is a fraud and a hoax
If the Left wants to condemn conservatives for the sins of their ancestors, they are condemning themselves.
Over the last 26 years I have been in politics, I have been called a "hypocrite" innumerable times. Many times, this is not because I did something that conflicts with my own stated principles, but because someone else did something that conflicts with my principles. My "hypocrisy" is due to this other person being a Republican and/or conservative, even if I had never even heard of that person before the accusation of "hypocrisy" was thrown at me. It is utterly absurd.
This brings me to the latest attempt to "own" conservative pundit Tomi Lahren, with the shocking revelation that her great-great-grandfather had been prosecuted for allegedly forging his immigration paperwork. Wow, this is a major scandal, right? All of Lahren's arguments about immigration, the rule of law, and how we should deal with immigration policy have been totally invalidated by the fact that her great-great-grandfather allegedly broke immigration law decades before she was born.
Of course, this is nonsense. Lahren is not a hypocrite because of what her great-great grandfather did decades before she was born. She would be a hypocrite if she broke immigration laws to become a United States citizen. But she did not. She was born in South Dakota in 1992, gaining her citizenship because she was born on American soil. She is a natural-born citizen.
If you go back far enough in anyone's genealogy, you can find people who did all sorts of dishonest, unsavory and even many outright evil things. It is utterly stupid and anti-logical to describe present-day people as "hypocrites" because of acts committed before they were born. If the Left wants to open that can of worms, though, I am sure conservative genealogists could find many examples of racism, bigotry, rape, murder and even genocide committed by their ancestors. According to their own "logic," they are all stained by this blood-guilt, and are hypocrites to speak against it.
There are plenty of legitimate ways to criticize someone. "Resistance genealogy" is completely without merit. It is a desperate and pathetic attempt to distract from policy arguments in the present day by fabricating examples of "hypocrisy" that are irrelevant to present day and are not a stain on any modern person's character or integrity. Leftists who spend hours, days and weeks tracking down legal documents from a century ago to prove "hypocrisy" are only proving their own lack of ability to argue rationally.
