The bottom is more important than the top
Local government has much more of a direct impact on you than Washington D.C. Your vote also matters much more in local elections.
When you call 911 in an emergency, is it the FBI who shows up, or your local police officer or sheriff's deputy? The snow in your street needs to be paved. The trash sitting on your curb needs to be picked up. You cannot walk on the county trails because it has degenerated and there is a serious safety concern. Who is going to take care of that? Do you write your Congressman about it? Or do you directly address your local leaders - the people who shop at the same grocery store, go to the same farmer's market, and drive on the same streets that you do?
This is a presidential election year, and the presidential election consumes most of the oxygen in the room. If we don't elect our guy or defeat that other guy, the country as we know it is finished. Whether or not you think this is overblown, what matters directly to you is not who sits in the White House, but who sits on the city council or who serves as county commissioner.
People talk about knowing what time it is and why we need to "fight" for the future of our country. OK, fine, we need to fight! What are you going to actually do then? Will you go door-to-door? Will you raise money? Will you make phone calls? Will you speak at government meetings? Will you picket the local abortion clinic? Will you talk to your friends and neighbors? Oh, it is none of those things. You just want to be obnoxious on social media. That's not "fighting." You are engaged in roleplaying, and not even live-action roleplaying. Go outside and touch grass.
Our culture will not be won by electing the right person to Congress or the Senate or as President, and it certainly will not be won by posting the right memes on Twitter, Facebook, or Gab. This is not to say those offices are not important, but the government that matters most to your life is your local city, county and township government. Our culture is won block by block, and (more importantly) pulpit by pulpit. Unless we have pastors who are willing to preach the Word and congregations who will listen and then try to serve God in their day-to-day lives, nothing that happens inside of the Beltway matters at all.
