The Campus River?
No, Indiana University should not rename the Jordan River because of David Starr Jordan's sins.
Every single person who has ever lived is flawed in some way, some more so than others. The answer is not to erase history and change names that have stood for generations. The answer is to educate people about why Jordan and Planned Parenthood were wrong to promote eugenics.
Furthermore, is it really that hard to come up with a more imaginative name than "Campus River" at the state's premier research university?
One of the people who responded to the "Instant Message" question in the Herald-Times made an excellent point about changing the name of Jordan Avenue: We should not force businesses and homeowners to change their address.
Here is a better idea: Rename everything to honor former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan instead. That might annoy fans of the Indiana Pacers, but it solves the problem.
