The Cult of Wokeness does not allow forgiveness
This is not a policy debate. It is a purity test that very few people who were in office prior to 2010 could ever pass.
Imagine serving a "god" that does not allow forgiveness. Imagine serving a "god" that allows you to do something, then changes the standards ex post facto and declares you a "heretic" after the fact and then refuses to allow any path to forgiveness or redemption. You are "dirty" forever, and nothing you do can ever be good enough to overcome your past deeds. Such a "god" exists. He/she/it is the object of worship in the Cult of Wokeness.
Jennifer McCormick is the Democratic candidate for governor of Indiana. When she named named Terry Goodin as her choice for lieutenant governor, there was an immediate backlash. Goodin had voted to ban homosexual marriage in 2011, holding the same position as President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Goodin has recanted his position and supports homosexual marriage:
"I'm person enough to stand here and say I am sorry for that," says potential Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor Terry Goodin of his 2011 vote in favor of banning gay marriage in Indiana.
He told reporters yesterday he had changed his mind and was now a supporter of LGBTQ right.
But there can never be forgiveness. The "woke" are far too vindictive for that. Once you have committed "heresy" you are dirty forever - even if you took a position that was in line with the mainstream position of the Democratic Party, including Obama and Biden. You cannot be forgiven even if you changed your position and apologized for a vote that (in Goodin's words) "totally dehumanized, demean and hurt thousands of Hoosiers."
Now, let's be realistic here. Homosexual marriage is not going anywhere anytime soon. The Supreme Court mandated that states recognize same-sex marriage in the Obergefell decision in June 2015. That decision is unlikely to be overturned, and Indiana is not going to openly defy it nine years later. Even if it was overturned today, there have been enough same-sex marriages that going back to the 2014 status quo is politically impossible - even in a deep red state. Donald Trump would almost certainly condemn any effort to do that, and Republicans will not defy him.
Opposing Goodin - or President Biden - because of his position on same-sex marriage in 2011 is taking an issue where you have already won and making that a litmus test even for people who no longer hold that position. This is not a policy debate. It is a purity test that very few people who were in office prior to 2010 could ever pass. It is not enough that you have won in the issue nationwide. Those who opposed you must be punished, no matter what their position is now.
Wokeness is a sad and depressing way to live. It crushes your hopes and dreams. There is never any forgiveness and there is never any redemption. Once you have committed "heresy," you are dirty forever. You have no hope. You cannot escape your past and nothing you do now will ever be good enough to make up for it.
Contrast this to Christianity, which has a God of infinite mercy, who forgives the most horrible sins imaginable. Go look up the story of wicked King Mannaseh of Judah and you will see what I am talking about. Also remember how God forgave the wicked, brutal, genocidal city of Nineveh and spared the city from His righteous judgment. These are both examples from the Old Testament, by the way. Christianity offers forgiveness, while wokeness offers nothing but condemnation.
Do not follow the cult of wokeness. Wokeness promises that you can never be good enough, and even if you are good enough today the standards might be totally different ten years from now. Why would you want to follow a pagan "faith" that offers no hope of salvation? Instead, worship the only true God. Scripture promises that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Repent and believe in Jesus Christ today.
