I am very concerned about the practice of offering lesser punishment to other criminals in exchange for testimony in someone else's criminal trial. It creates perverse incentives that run counter to the interests of justice. Giving criminals (who have obvious credibility problems) deals to testify against other people creates problems. Surely they would not lie or make things up in order to get a better deal for themselves, right?
