As I explained a couple days ago, I support the death penalty and the public application of it. I specifically support the public execution of Muslim terrorist and mass murderer Nidal Hasan. This is a man who walked up to a pregnant woman who was begging for her life and shot her to death. He deserves the same amount of sympathy that he offered to her, which is none at all. The fact that we are executing someone in a wheelchair does not bother me in the least.
It is true that some of the people on social media who are decrying this execution as "inhumane" celebrated (or at least downplayed) the murder of Charlie Kirk and/or the attempted assassination of President Trump. This is obvious hypocrisy that damages the credibility of those particular execution opponents. However, there are pro-life Roman Catholics who are also opposing the live-streamed execution on religious grounds. This includes Lila Rose, who voted for President Trump in 2024.
Of course, when Rose opposed the public execution of Hasan, MAGA chuds online fraudulently accused her of supporting shooting Republicans. Does it really need to be pointed out that the fact that someone opposes the public execution of Muslim terrorist Hasan does NOT mean they support political violence against Kirk and President Trump? Are some in MAGA really so small-minded that they think that anyone who opposes President Trump on anything supports his murder? Really?
This is perfectly representative of a far-too-common trend: We always want to assume the worst about our political adversaries. They cannot simply be someone who is wrong on any given issue: They are evil, they are violent, they support violence and they are filled with hate. If someone disagrees with you one one hot-button issue, they must disagree with you on everything. There is no room for nuance or independent thought. The most intense condemnation is reserved for your allies, not the opposing party. If you not not believe that, look at how Republicans who disagree with or criticize defy President Trump are excoriated by MAGA.
People, we need to do better. We need to realize that someone who disagrees with us 10% of the time is not a 100% enemy. We need to have more tolerance for disagreement within the party, remembering that if we really were ideological purists someone like Donald Trump could never have come close to winning the nomination. We need to actually have documentation before we make wild accusations, especially allegations that someone supports criminal activity. (4Chan does not count, by the way.) Above all else, we need to be charitable in disagreement, especially with people who are on our side.
