When "compassion" is actually hatred
The so-called "judges" who allowed Decarlos Brown Jr. to viciously murder Iryna Zarutska should all be in prison for life, without the possibility of parole.
Decarlos Brown Jr. had a long criminal history well before he ever brutally murdered Iryna Zarutska on a train. Had Brown been in prison where he should have been, Zarutska would still be alive. The ultimate responsibility for her murder is not with Brown, but with the so-called "judges" who allowed him to roam free when they refused to do their jobs. They should all face life in prison without the possibility of parole, both for the sake of justice and as a deterrent to other "judges" who are tempted to practice toxic empathy.
But what about the love of Christ and compassion even for the worst sinners? Let me be clear: Ted Bundy and Jeffery Dahmer were two of the worst and most depraved serial killers in history. If they legitimately accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, they are in Heaven right now. Wicked King Manasseh of Judah, who burned his own infant children to death to sacrifice them to the demon Molech, is worse than both of them. He is not only in Heaven, he is in the line of Jesus Christ.
But love and forgiveness do not erase the need for early justice. Love and compassion most certainly do not erase the responsibility of the civil magistrate to protect innocent victims from predators. Does Jesus want to see people locked up? Absolutely yes, He does. That he because He does not want to see innocent people raped and murdered by violent predators.
Justice is important, and criminals deserve to be punished. But the primary purpose of keeping criminals locked up is to protect the innocent. Iryna Zarutska should not be dead. She should be alive. She is dead because the people we put in place to protect her abandoned their duty. "Loving" the guilty does not require allowing innocent people to be raped and murdered. "Compassion" for the guilty is an act of hatred toward innocent people. This used to be universally understood, and Romans 13 explains that the government does not bear the sword for nothing.
Jesus calls on us to love our neighbors, and He gave the sword to the civil magistrate to fulfill that duty. The sword, the prison, and the electric chair are all instruments of love toward innocent people. When government officials abandon that duty, they directly betray and show contempt for Jesus Christ. These wicked "leaders" are worse than the criminals they inflict on innocent people, and should be locked up to protect society from their depravity.
