Monroe County Democrats show contempt for taxpayers
Jennifer Crossley has proven herself to be unfit to serve on the Monroe County Council. Character matters.
As expected, the Bloomington City Council unanimously voted in favor of a resolution condemning the state legislature for banning "gender affirming" hormones and surgeries for minors. Councilors fell all over themselves praising the people who spoke in favor of the "gender affirming healthcare" resolution last night, saying how it shows "bravery."
Bravery? Hardly. It is not "brave" to go into a room full of like-minded people to speak in favor of a resolution that never had any chance of not passing unanimously. The only dissent from councilors was to the speed of the process. No, the bravery is speaking against it, in a room full of people opposing your viewpoint and heckling your speech in front of a city council that was always predestined to vote unanimously "yes."
The lack of self-awareness in voting for this resolution immediately after voting to fund Planned Parenthood was amusing. The city councilors gushed about medical freedom and the ability for people to choose "gender affirming care" for their children, yet they had just finished forcing every single person in the community to fund medical quackery that many of us do not agree with. This was literally done at gunpoint. Am I being over-dramatic? What do you think happens if you do not pay your property taxes?
But the most egregious part of the meeting was when City Clerk Nicole Bolden and her deputy turned their backs on the one person who spoke against the "transgender healthcare" resolution while she was speaking. The deputy is also a member of the Monroe County Council, which shows just how much disrespect she has for the very people who elected her. By showing this level of disrespect for voters and taxpayers, Jennifer Crossley has proven herself to be unfit to serve on the Monroe County Council.
In years past, Monroe County Democrats were often displeased with opposition to their rule over us, but they did not openly and publicly show disdain and disrespect for people who spoke to them. They at least pretended to hold the belief that they represented all voters of Bloomington and Monroe County. Now some of them have even thrown that mask away. This is shameful behavior, and the taxpayers and voters deserve better.
