I moved back to Bloomington twenty years ago today, one year to the day after graduating from Indiana University.
Things are very different now, especially politically. At this time in 1999, we had 3 Republicans on the city council. Had Republicans gotten 100 more votes in districts 4 and 6, they would have won both plus an at-large seat, for a 5-4 majority.
In January 2003, Republicans had 5 of 7 seats on the county council, and 2 of 3 county commissioners were Republicans. The Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder, Clerk, Surveyor and Prosecutor were all Republicans.
Not any more.
